Joy is an abstract visual artist who is self-taught and has always had the creative bug. Joy was born in Prince George’s County, MD. However, during her childhood she’s also experienced time in various places including Europe. She decided to delve further into her creative side and become an abstract artist. This developed from her love of refurbishing wood pieces and creating decorative trays.
As she grew more comfortable with creating artwork, Joy decided to add pieces to her Etsy Shop which was established in 2014. From there she has enjoyed creating relationships with artists and followers via social media and attending classes to further her knowledge. She has spent numerous hours dedicated to honing her craft and has grown to love the process of creating artwork.
She loves organization and structure. However, with painting it allows her to let down her guard and not focus on perfection, but to just go with the flow of the process. Art is very therapeutic for her and allows Joy to express herself artistically in various forms. Joy is enjoying the process of painting and sharing her artwork with not only admirers but future collectors.
She’s been in the insurance benefits industry for 20 plus years. She’s married with one child and currently resides in Anne Arundel County, MD. When she’s not creating or participating in art shows/pop-ups, she loves to stay active by working out and spending quality time with family. Besides family, putting God first in anything that she does is what keeps her going.
Always Choose Joy!
Being a creative is very therapeutic for me.
I love the process of creating different types of
pieces in various forms.
I’m motivated to make art because.
it allows me to speak without using words.
Art is expressive and can have many different characters within each piece.
I primarily use acrylic paint. For texture I use modeling paste, course texture, silicone and occasionally an alcohol and water mixture. In addition to brushes, I also use palette knives and squeegees on both canvas and wood. My creations are inspired by my love of different shades and shapes. I love the movement and emotions they invoke.
I’m inspired to create art because I like to push myself with every piece I create and that helps me grow not only as a person but as an artist. I love to make my surroundings livelier and hope that I’m able to do the same for my clients.
Joy's grandmother would always keep busy by working on different crafts and home improvement projects around the house. Being exposed to that is one of the many things that gave her the motivation to create. Her Grandmother loved to make her home welcoming and inviting and that’s what Joy hopes to do for her clients. Her garden is another source of inspiration because of the calming and therapeutic feeling it provides. She also admires and is inspired by other abstract artists.
At UltimateJoyArtDesign we create abstract/mixed media art pieces on both canvas and wood. In addition, we also offer one of a kind decorative wood and resin trays that showcase our original hand painted abstract designs. Our pieces can be displayed in your home, office or in a commercial setting. Joy’s thought is that working in a single medium is restrictive to her artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style. She doesn't like to stick to one particular style of painting and that allows Joy to express herself based on a current mood or feeling.
