About the Artist
About Joy
Joy is a self-taught abstract visual artist who has always had a passion for being creative. Born in Prince George’s County, Maryland, she also spent part of her childhood in various places, including Europe. Her journey into abstract art grew from her love of refurbishing wood pieces and creating decorative trays.
As her confidence as an artist grew, Joy began adding original pieces to her Etsy shop, established in 2014.
Since then, she has built meaningful connections with fellow artists, participated in art festivals, and taken classes to expand her knowledge. Through countless hours of practice, she has continued to refine her craft and deepen her love for the creative process.
Although she values organization and structure, painting gives Joy the freedom to let go of perfection and embrace the flow of the process. Art is deeply therapeutic for her and provides a meaningful outlet for self-expression in many forms. She finds great fulfillment in creating and sharing her work with admirers and future collectors alike.
In addition to her artistic work, Joy has spent more than 20 years in the insurance benefits industry. She is married, has one child, and currently resides in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. When she is not creating or participating in art shows and pop-ups, she enjoys staying active and spending quality time with her family.

Artist Statement
Creating is a deeply therapeutic act for me and an essential form of communication beyond language. Through abstraction, I explore expression, energy, and the distinct character that can emerge within each piece. My work is guided by a desire to create visual experiences that feel both intuitive and emotionally resonant.
I primarily work with acrylic paint, incorporating materials such as modeling paste, coarse texture, silicone, and, at times, an alcohol-and-water mixture to build dimension and movement. Using brushes, palette knives, and additional tools on both canvas and wood, I create layered surfaces shaped by my attraction to color, form, and the emotion they can evoke.
Each work is an opportunity for me to push my practice further and to grow through the act of making. I am continually inspired by the challenge of discovering new possibilities within color, texture, and composition. Ultimately, I hope my work brings vibrancy, movement, and a sense of connection to the spaces and people it reaches.
Inspiration
Joy's grandmother would always keep busy by working on different crafts and home improvement projects around the house. Being exposed to that is one of the many things that gave her the motivation to create. Her Grandmother loved to make her home welcoming and inviting and that’s what Joy hopes to do for her clients. Her garden is another source of inspiration because of the calming and therapeutic feeling it provides. She also admires and is inspired by other abstract artists.
Creating
At UltimateJoyArtDesign we create abstract/mixed media art pieces on both canvas and wood. In addition, we also offer one of a kind decorative wood and resin trays that showcase our original hand painted abstract designs. Our pieces can be displayed in your home, office or in a commercial setting. Joy’s thought is that working in a single medium is restrictive to her artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style. She doesn't like to stick to one particular style of painting and that allows Joy to express herself based on a current mood or feeling.
